How It Works

This process uses an electric arc surrounded by an inert gas as an energy source. The extraordinary advantage of containing all thermal energy generation inside the equipment results in high output speeds of gases converted into plasma by electric arc ionization.

Plasma is considered the fourth state of matter. It is the name given to gases raised to an energy level higher than the normal gaseous state, so that the molecules of the gas dissociate, electrons are separated from the atoms, and this becomes a conductor of electricity. The energy necessary for dissociation and ionization of the gas is released again when it cools down and this energy is used for the fusion of the materials to be deposited.

The materials applied are those with a high melting point, such as oxy-ceramics
(~5,000 ºC), as temperatures of around 8,000 -15,000 Cº are achieved in the plasma.

The layers generated are porous (1 to 7%) and promote good adhesion to the base metal (2,500 to 3,500 psi). It is more suitable for the application of ceramic materials, as its heat source is sufficient to melt them.
